The Premier League has once again reminded us why it is impossible to predict!
Matchweek 4 delivered a little bit of everything — a Manchester derby decided by one goal, Brighton smashing five, Liverpool dropping points, Chelsea being held at home and Arsenal maintaining their perfect start.
Here are the biggest takeaways from another crazy Premier League weekend.
🔥 EPL Week 4 Results: The Big Talking Points
The biggest result came at Old Trafford, where Manchester City beat Manchester United 1-0 in the Manchester Derby. City took the bragging rights, while United will be left wondering what might have been.
Brighton produced the biggest scoreline of the week, destroying Coventry City 5-0. It was a statement attacking performance and one that will certainly have FPL managers looking twice at Brighton assets.
Arsenal remain perfect after four matches. The defending champions beat Sunderland 2-0, with Bruno Guimarães opening the scoring before Bukayo Saka added the second from the penalty spot. David Raya was also the hero, saving a penalty.
Liverpool, meanwhile, couldn't find a way past Fulham as the two sides played out a 0-0 draw at Anfield.
Chelsea were also frustrated, being held to a 2-2 draw by Hull City. Hull's unbeaten start continues to be one of the early surprises of the season.
Elsewhere, Nottingham Forest beat Aston Villa 2-1, Ipswich shocked Crystal Palace 3-2, Bournemouth and Brentford drew 2-2, while Tottenham and Everton played out another goalless draw. Leeds then finished the gameweek in style by hammering Newcastle 4-1.
⭐ Player of the Week: Lewis Dunk
My Player of the Week goes to Lewis Dunk.
Brighton's 5-0 win was the standout team performance and Dunk wasn't just part of a clean sheet — he also got on the scoresheet. For a centre-back to contribute at both ends while his team puts five past the opposition is exactly the kind of performance that deserves recognition.
There were plenty of contenders, including David Raya, Bruno Guimarães, Bukayo Saka and Erling Haaland, but Dunk gets my vote this week.
🎯 FPL Gameweek 5: Who Should You Pick?
Now comes the big question for Fantasy Premier League managers — who gets the armband in GW5?
For me, Erling Haaland is the obvious captain pick.
Manchester City face Sunderland at home, and Haaland currently leads the Premier League scoring charts with four goals. FPL projections also have him as the leading captain option for Gameweek 5.
My GW5 shortlist:
- Captain: Erling Haaland
- Safe midfield pick: Bukayo Saka
- Midfield differential: Morgan Gibbs-White
- Value forward: João Pedro
- Liverpool pick: Alexander Isak
- Defensive pick: Manchester City defenders
The other fixtures worth watching are Bournemouth vs Liverpool, Brighton vs Arsenal and Fulham vs Manchester United.
One warning though: don't make transfers simply because a team scored five last weekend. FPL is about fixtures, minutes, form and underlying opportunity — not just the previous scoreline.GW5 could be another big one for the mini-leagues!
